Writing Transition Plans for Intended High School Graduates
About this session:
Many parents of special needs students have seen these transition goals for their intended high school graduates: "Student will attend college," "Student will get a job," "Student will live in the family home." And most parents think that this is the best they can get for their children.
Jan Johnston-Tyler, Founder and CEO of EvoLibri Consulting will discuss practical ways to help your student launch into the world of adulthood by developing workable transition plans:
- What services will my student qualify for?
- What services are available in college? How does my student access them?
- What types of careers will my student be successful at? How will I know?
- How do I get my student ready for adulthood? What skills are missing, and how do I teach them?
- What is the role of the school, the family, the student -- and other agencies -- in my student's future?
Writing transition plans shouldn't be painful -- learn how to get your student what s/he needs before graduation!
Jan Johnston-Tyler, founder and CEO of EvoLibri Consulting, is an expert on transition planning for neurodiverse youth in the Bay Area.
